Rent a car. Brave at least a dozen turnarounds in Dublin. Head West. After five hours of curving across Ireland's windy roads and soggy terrain, you'll find yourself in the most enchanting place on earth- the Dingle Peninsula.
About three hours from Dingle is Cashel, Ireland. We stopped to stretch our legs here and found the Rock of Cashel- a castle that has been around since the 12th century. Scoping out the chambers of old royalty was truly surreal, and surrounding the castle were centuries-old graves that had moss and algae growing through stone. Seeing something so ancient really makes you feel insignificant, I would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a reality check.
After a stressfully stormy drive, we finally arrived in Dingle. We quickly learned that a must-see is the town dolphin (duh)! Fungie the Dolphin has been around for years and never leaves the Dingle Bay. He also loves the boats that come to visit him and plays in their wake. He played around our little fishing boat for almost an hour, and we truly could not get enough of him.
On the single sunny day in Dingle we explored further down the peninsula. On our journey we found baby goats, a fairy circle, and the most charming beach walks. Though maybe not the sunniest spot, Dingle was heart-warming and had a mystic soul, I can't wait to return and get lost in its windy roads yet again.
